This feature which unfortunately can only be accessed by Beta users for WhatsApp version 2.19.221 can be activated via the Settings - Account - Privacy - Fingerprint lock page.
If this feature is activated, every time the user wants to read a message via WhatsApp on their Android smartphone, the user must scan the fingerprint first before the application will open fully. At this time, users who want to use WhatsApp Call do not need to authenticate before using it.
When users need to authenticate with this fingerprint can also be timed. The user can set whether this authentication will be valid for a maximum of 30 minutes, so that authentication will not be needed again when WhatsApp is still being used within the specified time. If the user uses the widget for WhatsApp on the main screen of the smartphone while activating this fingerprint feature, WhatsApp content will be hidden and cannot be seen unless the user authenticates. In terms of privacy security, WhatsApp can guarantee that fingerprint data will not be sent to Facebook or Google because this feature uses the official API of Android biometric authentication.
At this time, it is unclear when the fingerprint feature will be available for non-beta WhatsApp or public versions.
